The Sunday Post #5

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer, It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

We got back from our trip not too long ago, and while I missed the family members and friends there, as well as the place where we grew up- I’m so glad to be back!! πŸ™‚ I really wish my grandparents would consider moving to live with us.

Since we watched what movies we could while we were there (we rarely go to the movies at home), I imagine it will be quite a while before we go to watch any others. Which reminds me, did anyone else see the trailer for Stephen King’s The Shining‘s sequel?? It’s called Doctor Sleep!!

Here’s the trailer!

Lately I’ve been in a (rather late) Spring Cleaning mood, so I’ve been going through my bookshelves and getting rid of quite a few of them- getting them ready for giveaways and donating them mostly.

That ought to make my TBR mountain go down at least a bit! Lol

Some that are leaving my house soon include:

An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Wake by Amanda Hocking

Orleans by Sherri L. Smith

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

And last week’s Sunday, I was so busy with Father’s Day I didn’t post! The plan had been for my family to wake up early and head to the beach for a morning picnic (my father’s favorite place), but some things happened and we ended up eating at a restaurant he picked and then renting some movies to watch together instead! ❀

Hope you all had a great Father’s Day with your dads!! πŸ˜€ Have a lovely day!!

Baking Posts

Of Dutch Apple Pie & Poetry Books!

Some of us love to read poetry, some of us hate it, and some of us just read it for school!
Literally everyone falls into one of those three options.

I personally love to read Poetry collections, but that’s because I found the right ones from the beginning that just connected with me right away- and I fell in love with the symbols and rhyming lyrics!

Though, I completely understand having not found the right parts of poetry that made you want to read it more, or just not liking it in general- it is art but with words.

”Poetry is made from great thinkers, not great makers of art ~ quote by moi.”

I personally love how poetry could be about anything- it could be telling the poet’s deepest darkest secret, but it’s told through a different kind of story and is more vague where you’re still thinking about it hours later. I love thought-provoking poems! ❀

Edgar Allen Poe is my favorite poet that I suggest, though I will admit his writing may not be for everyone…the one I fell in love with first of his was Annabel Lee.

Here’s just a handful of some poetry collections:

Pillow Thoughts by Courtney Peppernell
Milk and Honey bu Rupi Kaur
The Poet of the Heart by LaNona Walker
The Sun and Her Flowers bu Rupi Kaur

What’s your favorite warm dessert to bake or to eat?? Is there something you like to add to it as your own special touch?

Dutch Apple Pie is not my favorite, but it is my mother’s so I’ve learned to add a couple things when I make one for her- that way she’s sure to love it! ❀

Here’s a link to my favorite recipe for Dutch Apple Pie, by The Diary of a Real Housewife.

  • With apple pies, granny smith apples or honey-crisp apples do best. They hold their shape better when baking, and are tartly-sweet.
  • My personal favorite my grandma taught me: crush up graham crackers and sprinkle them on top right before baking! (Trust me, give it a nice crunch!) You also can even add nuts or a table spoon of ground cinnamon or apple spice blend as well. πŸ™‚
  • Best served with whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream on top! (My mother’s favorite is vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup.)

*Extra Note: if you wrap pie in plastic wrap and foil, you can freeze it for up to 3 months!*

Do you like Poetry and/or Dutch Apple Pie??

What are some tips or tricks you use for baking a pie?
